My Fabric Spree
Published by Jen April 2nd, 2007 in Plus-Size Sewing Patterns.I finally took pictures of my new fabric and patterns. You can see why I’ve got some sewing to do!
Take a look at the fabrics and their corresponding patterns in my Fabric Insanity Flickr album. I’ve also got a photo in there of the baby floor pillow I just finished for Ben. Had to get that done before he gets much taller!
I have fabric for these patterns:
- Simplicity Wrap Shirt- making two of the second one down on the left with some very lightweight fancy knit material here and here. Am I sure about this? No. But it’s the only stretchy stuff I could find at Hancock that wasn’t a solid color or swimsuit material.
- Simplicity Swim Suit - The top from this pattern plus a skirt bottom from an older pattern in a brown floral fabric. They had some hip, crazy colored fabric I liked but this seemed like it would be the most flattering. I use the excuse that plus-size swimsuits are freaking expensive (like $75+) to justify half of my fabric purchase.
- Simplicity Lounge Wear - Bought this fabric to make the robe and camisole. I already have black pants - no sense in making more.
- Simplicity Cropped pants and tunic - with this fabric, similar to the model on the left.
- Simplicity Kimono Top - in this fabric and this fabric. Since I couldn’t find matching trim, I’ll make the one the model is wearing.
- McCalls Tunic - the one in the middle left in this fabric.
- McCalls comfy pants and shirt - can’t find the pattern on their site but it’s in my photo.
My first project is the tunic from McCalls. Before I could start on that I had to finish the baby floor pillow for Ben (see the front and back.)
Whew! One of Ben’s words sums it up - “Fabwick!” (I posted more of his toddler-speak here.)
I had a pattern spree too, but that post will have to wait ’till another night - baby calls.
There are spring knitting and crochet magazines popping up everywhere. I’ll post what I find as soon as I get them!
Hope you have a project-finishing kind of week,
Jen
I just cut out 3893 last night, in some stretchy stripey fabric, I’m making view A, I hope I can get it long enough, though, because my torso is longer than most
And-I peeked at your page with Ben’s words–Gave me such a chuckle, bc my weeZ has a ninny too! Hers is a blankie, though
I just read the Ben speak. So cute! The Hancock fabric near me closed sometime ago and I didn’t even know about it. I wish I had. My fiance and I went there one day to check out the fabric and it was gone! So disappointed. Looks like you’ll be busy for awhile!
I went fabric shopping with my mom yesterday. I found a teal stretch knit to make some cropped yoga pants. My fiance and I had gone to Joann’s two weeks ago to look around. We’ve decided to start our Halloween costumes early this year, ’cause we usually wait until the last minute. I’ll be making the Simplicity Kimono pattern that I sent you. Well, the brocade was on sale until that day. (He bought me the fabric for the kimono! It was that night he preposed!) When I was out yesterday I got the fabric for the dicky part of the kimono, too. Still searching for something for the obi.
I also got that saturday when we went to Joann’s the book No Sheep for You. The patterns go up to about a 51″ chest. I’m planning on making the socks from it.
Hey Jen! Someone just emailed me this link to Vermont Fiber Designs new plus size patterns. You may have posted this already, I am sadly behind on my blogroll and emails but wanted to share just in case. They are some cute patterns! However it doesn’t look like they are available on the website, but they have a list of stores where they are available. I’m sure there is a way to get them online..
